DYNAMICS OF TENSION & EASE

a letterpress and somatic experiencing workshop

SUNDAY, JUNE 1 and SUNDAY, JUNE 8,  10am-2pm

We are excited to collaborate with our dear friend Martha Everett, of Abundance Therapeutics, on a special workshop offering in June! In this two-part workshop, participants will explore the concepts of “tension and ease” as they arise in the creative process as well as within our own bodies and experiences with the world around us.

Day One (June 1) will introduce students to the craft and process of letterpress printing, focusing on working with antique type and various forms of image-making to design, print, and assemble our own journals. Letterpress, like many other creative processes, is often a struggle between possibility and limitation, and we hope to explore those tensions in this intro session. We will be encouraged to pause and notice our own bodies, feelings, thoughts and awareness in the process. Perhaps we can notice our restrictions to the flow of creativity, in a more tensioned pattern. We may explore the release of that tension that may occur. we may notice a blank space, or a surge of energy moving across the page. It is all there for us to discover within ourselves as we design our covers and pages for our journal.

Day Two (June 8) will begin with assembling our journals, and then will move into a two-hour guided somatic movement space (led by Martha Everett) where we can explore sound, breath, and space within our bodies, along with reflection and writing time in our new journals. Some of the movements and breath techniques are inspired from qigong. All movements can be modified to any level of physical limitations or fitness.

$160 early registration by May 1st ($200 after that)
