FULL WORKSHOP SERIES!
SESSION ONE: INTRO TO LETTERPRESS
Saturday, March 1, 10am-2pm
Saturday, March 1, 10am-2pm
This first session is an intro survey class about the history of Letterpress Printing, and an overview of the equipment and materials that we use. Participants will learn about the tools, terms, and processes involved in this craft, and will get a chance to take home a pre-designed printed piece.
SESSION TWO: INTRO TO TYPESETTING
Saturday, March 8, 10am-2pm
The second session builds upon the basics we learned last week, and digs deeper into the process of setting type. Working from our collection of antique wood and lead type, participants will work together to set type for a poster, and we will work through the processes of proofing, make-ready, troubleshooting, and printing. Participants will each leave with at least one print of the collaborative poster.
SESSION THREE: EXPLORING IMAGERY
Saturday, March 15, 10am-2pm
The third session focuses on how to incorporate imagery into this process. We will explore our collection of antique cuts, do some basic linoleum and/or wood carving, and discuss other processes such as photopolymer plates, mono prints, pressure printing, and more. Participants will get a chance to print artwork from our collection or their own design, and will leave with several prints.
SESSION FOUR: PRODUCTION
Saturday, March 22, 10am-2pm
Armed with the previous three weeks of information and new skills, students will design their own project to put into production! We will go over different paper types, which type of press is best for different projects, and do some tailored troubleshooting with each student.
BONUS SESSIONS
Sunday, March 23, 10am-2pm
Saturday, March 29, 10am-2pm
These optional sessions are available for students who have gone through the entire series and want a little more time to complete their projects, get technical advice, or explore the process a bit more.
